The study and practice of exercise and nutrition had been an integral part of my life for more than 25 years. Then I did what many of us do, after a career in business, I turned my passion into my profession. In 2007 I became a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) with the prestigious National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). After four years training clients in local gyms, I opened my own private training studio in 2011. Today, I provide in-home fitness training for select clients in Grass Valley, and Nevada City, CA, and online ProCoach nutrition coaching for women who want to change their relationship with food.
My fitness clients often ask nutrition-based questions, as food, and exercise are both integral to good health. I'm often asked what to eat, not to eat, how to lose weight, what do I think about this diet and that. So when I decided to add nutrition certification to my personal training regimen, I went to the leader in exercise nutrition education, Precision Nutrition®. After serious, in-depth study, I graduated a PN Level 1 Certified Coach, and this past year I completed my PN Level 2 certification, an advanced degree in coaching practices.
After years of working with women in a 'gym' setting, and talking to them about their relationship with food, diets, eating, body image, etc. I've grown to understand their powerful and complex emotional bond with food. A long-term habit-based approach, versus fad diets, is the best way to make lasting change in how we eat, how much we weigh, and how we look, and feel.
